Beacon Collaborative Minds strives to provide support for adolescents suffering from mental illness. According to the HHS, 49.5% of adolescents have had a mental health disorder at some point in their lives which is why teenagers must have access to support. Additionally, we provide support for those who are not battling mental illness by encouraging them to engage in self-care practices and talking to a trained professional when necessary.
Beacon Collaborative Minds creates a bridge between students and guidance counselors and resources outside of the school. Beacon Collaborative Minds creates a bridge between students and guidance counselors and resources outside of the school. We created guidance counselor posters to encourage students to meet their guidance counselors. Additionally, we have had several meetings with guidance staff to come up with plans to promote mental health awareness within our school. Lastly, we created a mental health resource wall on the 5th floor of our school to make sure that students always know where to go to find help.

Last year we collaborated with Black Student Union to discuss mental health in the black community. This allowed all of the people in attendance to further understand the intersectionality between mental health and race. We also have collaborated with Environmental Justice Club. Additionally, we have hosted fundraisers to promote mental health awareness and to give back to organizations that provide mental health resources and housing to youth every single day. Lastly, we host self-care activities to promote the importance of engaging in some sort of self-care.
